A Civic Center for Urban Agriculture
Folding Farm: A civic center for urban agriculture
Second Year Studio: Architectural Interventions in Urban Agriculture
Instructor: Jennifer Lucchino
Project Location: Friendship, Pittsburgh
In collaboration with Chandler Archbell
The site for this project included two empty lots and a group of garages that were meant to be built over. This center for urban agriculture design proposal focuses on the outreach and learning aspect of the project. The design is based on folds that were generated from mapping out the site. Functionally, they act as growing planes, water collection planes, and canopies. The market and teaching kitchen are located on the North/Penn avenue site. The cafe extends from the Northern buildings into the garden. At the heart of the whole site is the outreach centre where all circulation paths move through. Lecture stairs placed throughout the site encourage outdoor classroom activities.
